As I was growing up, this was an expression I heard from my Dad over and over again. It was a nod to making the most of the good seasons. The long hours. I often hear people say that fall is their favorite time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I too love a crisp autumn day, a tart apple from the farmer’s market, and the return of things that ooze coziness. But to be perfectly honest, I don’t do well in the long, dark winter months, and this time of year always brings with it the awareness that we are headed into a season that often feels too long, too cold, and short on energy and good vibes. In addition, it’s always just. so. darn. busy.

The theme of seasons and cycles is something I write about, think about, and talk about a lot. And today’s message is not about finding the bright spot in a cycle that stands in stark contrast to light and energy and productivity. Today’s message might simply just be about acceptance. The bitter pill that things are not always as we wish them to be. Which of course, is the very stuff of life, but just because we know this and live this in so many ways all the time doesn’t necessarily make it effortless.

So if you too feel this month beckoning you to the time of year that is not your favorite, know that I join you. And let’s together commit to staying creative when we can, getting through it how we can, and resting in the comfort of knowing that the sun will come back around eventually.

Wishing you a beautiful October.
