Soul

… and a few thoughts about AI

A woman in a soulful portrait captured by a Chicago photographer

Soul. By it’s very definition, AI will never be able to quite render it.

As a photographer and a writer, I’ve been immersing myself in this conversation about AI. I’ve also been using it. On a quest to speed up my workflow but also seeking answers to the most random of questions about life, I’ve been testing it out and been kind of amazed. It helped me a little with this new website. I’ve also found it slightly weird how both “nice” and yet impersonal it is. It’s also still just kind of gross and too glossy. But also, sometimes, honestly, it’s kind of great. Regardless of what I think about it or how much I use it, I know that it is here to stay. And supposedly change the world, yet again.

But honestly? Soul will forever be where it’s at. “Soulful” is a word that I decided early on was important in my voice as a photographer. Portraits capture a person in time and space. But soul is eternal. So let this be a call to action. Are you honoring your soul? Are you allowing for there to be a space to document who you truly are? Whether it’s journaling, writing a letter to yourself, writing a poem or asking a photographer to capture you in portraits. The depths of you are worth documenting.

Thanks for following along. Sending you big love. And if you want to connect about capturing your soul in a portrait session, message me!

xoxo,

Gina
